A Short Biography
Sandra Salo Deutchman
I was born in Highland Park, Illinois to immigrant parents from Finland, and was raised to love and respect nature, which has continued to be a profound influence on my paintings throughout my life. Also, my experiences while living for periods of time on sabbatical leaves in Denmark and Australia and travels to the southwestern states of the United States ,as well as Hawaii and Mexico, have had a strong impact on my work.
For me, painting has always been a strong focus in my private and professional life.
I taught children's art classes as well as high school art before joining the faculty at Washington State University located in Pullman, Washington in 1969.
My first solo exhibit was in l975 at Washington State University's Fine Arts Department, Gallery II. In 2001 the University of Idaho's Prichard Art Gallery showcased a retrospective exhibition my work. In 2008 my work was honored by the Washington State University Museum of Art with a retrospective exhibition of my paintings spanning over thirty years.
While my work has been in numerous exhibits and added to public and private collections, I have never marketed my work. However, at this juncture of my life, I have the time to prepare for exhibitions and invite you to view my work.
